Premier Sydney trainer Chris Waller came out with all guns blazing at his home track on Saturday, taking out the first two races.
Two-year-old Fundido, who is Magic Millions-bound, opened his account with a strong win in the Blackwoods Sidchrome Handicap (1100m).
Forty minutes later progressive three-year-old Dynamic Honour took his record to three wins from five starts in the Blackwoods Pacific Hoists Handicap (1400m).
By Dynaforma, the same sire as 2010 Melbourne Cup winner Americain, Dynamic Honour was beaten for early speed and looked to have the job ahead when leader Gaze In Awe kicked in the straight.
But the $2.60 favourite showed grit to dig deep and eventually reel in Gaze In Awe ($6.50) to score by a neck.
“As you can see he didn’t want any bigger step than today,” Waller said.
“It was perfect for him.
“What I like about him is he really tried hard.
“He didn’t look like he would get there at any stage but he kept fighting.”
Waller is unsure of his plans for Dynamic Honour and says it is an awkward time of year to have him racing if he is to head towards a feature like the Rosehill Guineas in the autumn.
“He’s on the wrong leg for a race like the Rosehill Guineas,” Waller said.
“We will find a race for him.
“If I compare him to some of the good horses I’ve had, he’s like some of them in they don’t win by much but they keep improving and he’s on that path, although he still has a long way to go.”
